Scottie Wade aka “Dr. Kirb,” was Selected for the Student Leadership Award at the NACE Conference in Jacksonville, Florida

This past August, Scottie “Dr. Kirb” Wade was selected for a “Student Leadership Award” in Jacksonville, voted on by his peers in the collegiate space. The award recognizes his leadership, dedication, and positive impact both within the Cleveland State Esports program and the broader collegiate esports community. Scottie was one of 5 players in all of collegiate esports who were selected for this award. He is an irreplaceable player, leader and friend in our program. We are so proud of him and so happy that his efforts are being recognized by all. Congratulations, Scottie! 💚

CSU Esports’ Overwatch Varsity Player Juan Sierra aka “T3MP,” Plays in the Overwatch World Cup for Team Columbia

Juan “T3MP” Sierra answers the call from Team Columbia, joining them for the Overwatch World Cup! The OWWC is similar to the recent FIFA World Cup, where each country puts together 1 team to compete against other countries through qualifiers on the world stage. Team Columbia, who welcomed Juan this past summer, finished as one of the top teams in the OWWC qualifiers and will play in South Korea August 20-23.  

Juan Sierra transferred in from Sienna Heights to Cleveland State this past Spring, and elevated the CSU OW program immediately. He plays Hitscan DPS for our Varsity team and prefers playing heroes like Emre, Sojourn, and Bastion. His presence on the team has proven invaluable to our program, and we are all supporting him as he makes his presence known worldwide! We are so proud of you, Juan! Let’s go Colombia! 💚🎮

Union 10 Directors Meetup

The National Association of Collegiate Esports has some big changes for the upcoming season. The Union 10 conference has added new programs like Radford, Kennesaw State, and Michigan State, and added Smash Ultimate as the 5th title to the conference. Union 10 consists of NCAA Division 1 schools and plays year-round. CSU will be returning to compete this year, and we look forward to a competitive season! 🎮

CSU Esports Welcomes Counter-Strike 2 Team to Varsity

After an impressive finish from the club team, the CSU esports program has officially added Counter-Strike 2 to its varsity roster. The club team placed second at NECC nationals in May and has now merged with pre-existing varsity players and new club members for the upcoming season. We’re excited to see where our players will go this upcoming season as the esports program continues to grow. 💚

Operation: Valhalla — CSU’s First Overwatch Invitational

Cleveland State University’s Esports team is excited to announce the debut of its first Overwatch Invitational event called Operation: Valhalla. The event will include nearby collegiate teams that may be unable to travel to tournaments that are farther from home and will also include CSU’s Overwatch Academy team.

CSU is thrilled to host this event and is looking forward to some fun yet competitive matches. Stay tuned for more information to be released soon!💚

CSU Esports’ Official Team Jersey

We are so excited to announce that CSU is branding! After several years operating and making decisions under CSU’s athletics program, Esports being moved into the Washkewicz College of Engineering has given the esports program more flexibility and room to get creative with brand-new traditional esports jerseys. After requesting designs from several companies, the jersey committee decided to use CritApparel, located in Columbus, OH! The jersey features a design with a Cleveland roadmap, city skyline, College of Engineering patch, and the traditional peeking Viking on the sleeve.💚

CSU’s New and Improved Fighter Game Station

The CSU esports lab continues to expand with its newest addition—a Fighter Station! There are 4 brand new PS5 Pros, 8 “200 Hz, 1ms” monitors, and a TV for a staging area. While the main focus remains Street Fighter, players will also participate in Guilty Gear Strive, 2XKO, and Tekken 8. 🎮

Evalgames Gives 5-Star Recruit Status to Brayden Brown, aka “Yerekanu.”

We would like to congratulate Brayden Brown for being the program’s first five-star recruit using Evalgames! Evalgames is an analytical tool used to evaluate and rate high school esports players. Brayden will be joining the Rocket League team in the upcoming season, joining Collin Johnson and Jacob Rivera. 💚

Meet Vaibhav Mishra, aka “Asian Noodles.” Originally from Strongsville, Ohio, Vaibhav is a senior majoring in biology and health science who will be playing League of Legends for the program this season. Tune into the streams to see Vibes running it down in the bottom lane, playing ADC for the team! In his free time, Vaibhav enjoys playing table tennis.
