Esports Ohio Regionals

On February 21-22, CSU hosted the Esports Ohio Regionals, a tournament for high school teams from around Northeast Ohio to compete and showcase their skills. The event had teams competing in their respective games, including Fortnite, Overwatch, Smash Ultimate, Valorant, and Rocket League. With over 30 high schools competing, the teams had a great day of challenging matches and fun conversation.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to host such an amazing event. Thank you so much, Esports Ohio! 💚💙

Giving Day 2026

So far this school year, the team has participated in social media fundraisers, the 24-hour stream, working tirelessly to make sure all of our streamed games are perfect, and it all paid off this past giving day, as the program reached its goal of $5000! We are so thankful to our donors, friends, family members, and fans for supporting our program and for sharing this passion for the community with us! 💚

Congratulations to the program, and thank you to everyone who got us to this point. We are so grateful for this milestone! 💚

NACE Playoffs

Another semester, another NACE season, and the teams are starting the year off strong in their competitions! We had FOUR teams qualify for the NACE playoffs, which will take place at a LAN event in Mizzou, the University of Missouri, on the weekend of 3/13.

Helheim 2026

With over 120 players and 13 colleges already registered, Helheim will be the first Super Regional at Cleveland State for Smash Ultimate. This will be the first time the tournament has been hosted in Northeast Ohio. The tournament will bring in over a dozen colleges, including Ohio State and Michigan State, as well as over 200 players from the region.

Huge planning has gone into this event from Julien "Potatoblu" Medina and Scottie "Dr. Kirb" Wade.

The event will take place over 2 days on March 28-29. You won’t want to miss this! 🎮💚

Graduate Spotlight

Junior Ramos, "CptJunior," Overwatch Varsity

Meet Junior Ramos, aka “CptJunior”, a member of CSU’s Overwatch Academy team who will be graduating this Spring. Junior is a senior majoring in electrical engineering, hailing from our very own Cleveland, Ohio. Junior plays Hitscan DPS for the team, and you will usually see him playing Sojourn, Freja, Cassidy or Ashe (and he plays a mean tracer!). In his free time, Junior enjoys bowling and 3d printing, and you may have seen Junior’s 3d printing projects all over our social media! After he graduates, Junior plans to work with the FBI as an electronic technician. A great friend, teammate, and artist, we are so proud of Junior and all of his accomplishments. He has been one of the backbones of CSU’s program for years. Best of luck in all of your endeavors, Junior. We are so excited for your new journey! 💚

New Player Spotlight

Julien Medina, "potatoblu," Smash Ultimate

Meet Julien Medina, aka “potatoblu”. While Julien is in his second year of college, this is his first year here at CSU as a member of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. Julien is a computer engineering major who grew up here in Cleveland. He mains Luigi in Smash Bros, though he also enjoys F1, bicycling, and other motor sports. So far, his best moment on the team was cleaning up multiple stocks for CSU during the BWU crew battle in Smash. Shoutout to Julien, and we can’t wait to see what he does next! 💚
